THROUGH ARTISTS' EYES
The Adirondack region has long been known as a wonderful, wild vacation retreat and the inspiration for numerous artists, writers and musicians. The artists who come and take part in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival know that very well, which is what attracts them from all over the country. It's the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi, yet within an easy days drive of the major cities of the northeast. There are mountains, lakes, rivers, bogs, forests, farms, and small communities - a full variety of subject matter for artists. Ninety artists submitted applications and 50 were selected to participate.
The Adirondack Plein Air Festival involves 4 1/2 days of painting and then a huge Show & Sale that could very well have 500 fresh, wet paintings that were created during the event. Spectators are encouraged to come watch the creative process as well as to enjoy the Adirondack environment themselves. Click on the "Schedule" link above to see what is going on each day of the event.
On Friday August 18, all the framed paintings have to be turned in and there will be a Special Preview Party & Awards Presentation from 6 - 9 pm in the Town Hall at 39 Main St. Tickets are $20/person and may be purchased below or at the door. Vermont artist Aline Ordman will select the prize winners. There is no charge for the Show & Sale on Saturday August 19, from 12 - 5 pm.
Our artists have a wonderful time exploring the Adirondacks with their paintbrushes. We invite you to come see what they have produced and perhaps bring home your own piece of the Adirondacks.
Ninety artists applied and 50 artists have been selected to participate, along with 10 alternates. Our 3 Selection Jurors were Massachusetts artist John MacDonald (our 2016 Awards Juror), Saratoga, NY artist Anne Diggory (a former Awards Juror), and Delaware artist Sarah Yeoman.

Place in 2016!
The 2016 Adirondack Plein Air Festival is over and was a great success, in spite of the moody grey skies and rain on the opening days. Sixty-four artists took part in the 5 day event, and a new record of over $31,000 in sales was set in what was the 8th year of the Festival.
George Van Hook, of Cambridge, NY, was given the 1st place prize by Awards Juror John MacDonald, of Massachusetts. George recieved $1000 cash from Saranac Lake ArtWorks, a featured artist ad donated by Eric Rhoads and Plein Air Magazine; assorted panels donated by Ampersand Gessoboards; and other merchandise totaling over $2000 in value.
