Financial Report

Lake Placid Arts & Music Festival (Columbus Day weekend) - shoot Sandy if she ever suggests doing something like this again... not at all successful and poorly planned by the organizer. Our display looked fine - 13 of us participated. No one attended.

Meeting Times: We will still try evening meetings for alternate months - Nov 8 will be at 8 AM.

Sue Patterson - First Night Art Project: briefly discussed; most felt people come to First Night to be entertained, not to participate in an art making activity - therefore we declined to try to develop something for this.

Summer Intern - Cris, Todd and Larry looked into this. Cris talked to ACNA - no $ for this; got same info from St. Lawrence Col Arts Council. Talked to Dean at PSC - it's possible it might fit in with the artisan entrepreneur program they wish to develop. Were reminded that interns are a lot of work (intent was to have them help cover galleries, attend Farmer's Mkt, get events up on calendars, put up posters, do PR). Check with Clarkson? Look for resources - ARtWorks, Bluseed, Pendragon, various colleges; report back in Nov.

Arts & Heritage Festival - someone said the title implies an event and there was no specific event, just lots of art and history things going on. Should the name be diffeent? Will pass comment on the adkarts.com group.

HOW DO WE GET MORE PARTICIPATION FROM ARTWORKS MEMBERS?
- current leadership would like to pass the reins on to others
- committee members
- perhaps we have member levels based on contributions of time?

Question raised - is ArtWorks taking on too much stuff? Artists need time for their own work and businesses. (A part-time, paid "director" would be nice.... SH)

ArtWorks address and phone number will be the Guilds - 52 Main St., 891-2615.

Holiday Art Events - if anyone wants to schedule an open house in their home/studio, or do any other kind of special event in December - please let Sandy know - it will all go on a Holiday Arts Schedule. (Gail Brill, Mary Lou Reid, Nadia Korths and a few others are planning a Helen Hill "studio tour" on the first 2 Saturdays in Dec.; Sandy will probably open her home/studio too).

Art Under $100 Show & Sale - Pendragon was offered last month as a site for it - Mark will contact Bob Pettee; we need to establish a policy for handling sales; an opening reception, etc.; perhaps have volunteers on hand for sales during performances.
  • Deadline for art drop off
  • Who will hang?
  • Mark will send an email out to get someone to be the coordinator.

2011 Studio Tour - few evaluations coming in but generally attendance and sales seemed to be lower - although downtown galleries had lots fo visitors. Got lots of ocmments on how nice the banners were downtown.

Need a committee to plan 2012 Studio Tour. Sandy is resigning and will provide all the files to whomever would like to take it over. It's still a great event to promote the arts in our area and still has the potential to be much better. Mark will contact Matt Paul and Susan Olsen to see if they are willing to continue with it. Sandy agreed to do the web site. Work needs to start right after the first fo the year.

- Cris suggested Commercial Art Supply in Syracuse be contacted as a major sponsor; Sandy reported that an art supply store in Burlington contacted her and asked to be a sponsor in 2012!

- Tossed around more ideas about somehow making the Studio Tour booklet primarily an Arts Directory - with the Studio Tour dates included.

- Discussed ideas about funding a part-time arts coordinator. Will look into grants, colleges. Dan offered to look for some.

- Sandy will write and submit the grant for the 2012 Studio Tour. (Done, SH)

Advertising & Marketing for 2012 - committments for advertising due soon; Sandy will put together a sample package; are we advertising in the right places? Need more outside of area. Matt suggested we look into more events/activities that would attract writers who would cover them (which ends up being free advertising) and is generally shared beyond our region. Brainstorming meeting Thurs. Nov 3, 8 pm, Artists Guild. Dan, Mark, Matt B, Sandy Burdette - anyone else?

Web site - Sandy continuing to update it with current events; would like to work on creating member profile sin 2012.

Fall Arts promotion - specific discounts - $5: Nadia interested even if she is not on Studio Tour.

Next Meeting: Tuesday Nov 8, 8 AM - Artists Guild
