Diane L. reported on the Artists at Work Studio Tour. Many of the evaluation forms have been returned. Diane is writing a grant application for Decentralization funds for the 2013 Studio Tour.
The concept of consolidating ArtWorks requests for a single sponsorship was discussed. Instead of asking the Saranac Lake business community for separate sponsorships for the Plein Air Festival, the Studio Tour, and the summer Art Walks, we may be more effective in combining our requests once a year. In addition, Cris learned that the Village of Saranac Lake board is discussing similar efforts with other organizations asking for village support.
The prior discussions brought up again the question of whether the local arts community needs a paid administrator, through Art Works. The following issues are raised:
It was decided that a small group of selected arts works members will be asked by the president. This group will work together to find some specific directions for funding an administrator by April 1, 2013.
David will discuss how to obtain administrative assistance from the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts with Bob Pettee, who has experience with the Center.
New PR initiative: Destination Adirondack Winter: the Adirondack’s Coolest Place. How can the arts community participate in this program?
Note from Sandy: I've already supplied the above project with all the dates I could come up with for Arts events in Dec, Jan, and Feb - but we could use a lot more. Exhibit openings, open houses, demos, presentations, etc. There will be a Holiday Stroll in Saranac Lake on December 7, 8, and 9 in conjunction with the Lake Placid Stroll, which has been held for several years. The Lake Placid organizers will include Saranac Lake events along with those in LP. Artists and arts businesses and organization should send information on their events during the Stroll to ……SANDY firstname.lastname@example.org
Mark has been asked by North Country Public Radio to encourage artists to submit their art to Artwork of the day on the radio station’s website. Mark may be able to encourage more arts participation through a blog via the radio station.
